Teenagers are the young adults who are no longer children.

during adolescence:

1. Communicate with your teenagers regularly, openly and without
ambiguities. Make yourself very clear enough that the children
with not hide under the excuse that they did not understand you
well enough, hence they could not do what you intend they should
do.

2. Refuse to let your conversations become conflicts. Teenagers have the skills to deliberately turn the table against you in any conversation, if you let them do so. To avoid this, therefore, you should refuse the temptation of allowing any conversation with your teenage child turn to a conflict unknowingly.

3. Listen to your teenagers. You have to learn to listen to your child even if what he is saying does not sound convincing. You should hear him out and later make effort to correct his errors. Don’t interrupt whatever he may be saying.

4. Spend leisure hours with your children. The time spent with your children should be such that they will always remember for sometime to come. Engage them in their favourite games and deliberately make them win you.They will laugh at you; never show them that you are the one that deliberately conceded a defeat.

5. Do not interfere with your teenagers’ personal tastes. Your child is an individual who should be respected on his own right. His takes are his and there should be no quarrel over that.

6. Help your children to become responsible and good citizens.

7. Close the generation gap between you and your children simply by establishing a lasting friendship with them.

I have watched a lot of parents who believe that they know everything there is to know about parenting and no one could every tell them anything new about how to raise their own children.
